Teaching
okay. it went great. it's GOING great. just did my second day of teaching High School kids "One" from A Chorus Line. They're doing pretty well. They actually remembered what I had taught the day before. apparently, they snuck into the studio after school on my first day with them and practiced on their own. they even dug up the chorus line CD. I guess that's a good sign.
There are 20 of them spread between two classes. one class is 'more advanced' than the other. some of them stand out in my mind... not necessarily because they're good. There's the one girl in the less advanced class who has all the steps down. She's small, but she looks powerful (?), kinda' like a gymnast. She dances with a completely blank look on her face. When I tell them to smile, her face lights up and she's beautiful.
There's a blond girl in the advanced class who's a bit of a train wreck. She dances the number like a stripper. She never takes her eyes off of her reflection in the mirror, completely focusing on the pouty, "sexy" looks she's making.
There's another girl in the advanced class who is a true train wreck. She came running into the studio with about half an ounce of clothing on. Her skin/clothing ratio was about 25/75.
Then there's 'empty headed chinese girl' who remembers the steps, but can't remember a simple direction like, "Don't move forward". her hair is haphazardly piled up on top of her head and as the class goes on, the pile migrates around her head leaving stray hairs to their own devices. By the end of class, she looks like one of those insane homeless women in chinatown.
I'm really loving this. I'd love to do this for a living. sigh.

I love the one who can't take her eyes off herself in the mirror. In this exercise class I used to take, there was a woman in front who did the same thing. And she always did these completely unnecessary exotic stretches before class, watching herself in the mirror, of course. And then when class would start, she would just freestyle. It was sooooo hilarious. And guess what? Turns out she really was a stripper.
Ewwwwwww.
